The Silver Spoon In Gigi Hadid's Mouth Just Earned Her Glamour's Woman Of The Year Award featureGigi Hadid is one of several women to have been named a “Woman of the Year” by Glamour Magazine. The Millennial supermodel is being honored alongside women like Solange Knowles, Maxine Waters and the organizers of the Women’s March. And she’s taking the chance to own up to her privileged up-brining.

“I was obviously very blessed growing up,” Gigi tells Glamour. Despite being born with a silver spoon in her mouth, Gigi said she does her best to be an advocate for the less fortunate.

“I want to be the person who always uses my platform to share what I’m passionate about, but it’s also scary and something I’ve learned to be cautious about,” she explains. That caution might be due to the biggest news story of Gigi’s year: a racist scandal involving a Buddha cookie.

Gigi eventually apologized for squinting her eyes to mock the cookie’s facial features. But that wasn’t enough for Chinese fans who don’t want her at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai. Glamour didn’t ask about that, but the publicatio did ask one of Gigi’s friends why she’s so great.

Problematic queen Lena Dunham had this to say about Gigi: “She grew up among glitterati in Los Angeles. She’s a supermodel. But from the moment we met—or maybe five minutes later, when she announced her fantasy of taking a nap inside a loaf of bread—I was like, ‘Holy crap. That’s my kind of girl.’”
